GAO publishes report detailing review of cyber insurance coverage & reports on cyber risk & the insurance market

The Government Accounting Office (GAO) has published a report detailing their review of cyber insurance coverage and reports on cyber risk and the insurance market.  The report, Cyber Insurance Action Needed to Assess Potential Federal Response to Catastrophic Attacks, recommends the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and the Department of the Treasury’s Federal Insurance Office (FIO) to conduct a joint assessment of which risks to critical infrastructure from catastrophic cyber incidents and potential financial exposures warrant a federal insurance response.  An August 2010 GAO report, Financial Assistance Ongoing Challenges and Guiding Principles Related to Government Assistance for Private Sector Companies, identified lessons learned from federal actions under the federal Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) and other programs that provided financial assistance to various major corporations.
