The Emergency Management Association of Texas fully supports and endorses the importance of Emergency Management to the safety and benefit of our citizens especially here in Texas. As a partner with the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) we encourage all to ascribe to these goals support EMAT and IAEM in getting the word out.

Mission Statement
EMAT provides an opportunity for members to shape emergency management policy and practice in Texas.

Vision Statement
To be recognized as the statewide emergency management association of Texas.

Goals

  1. Advance the professionalism of Emergency Mangement in Texas.
  2. Increase membership.
  3. As an organization, foster relations with other emergency management type of organizations.
  4. Address Federal/State emergency management issues.
  5. Develop and foster information sharing and mutual support networks for all phases of emergency management.

Member Classes

  1. "Voting"(delegate) membership shall be extended to paid or volunteer members of Emergency Management, Civil Defense or Emergency Preparedness (or other named organization with the same mission as these stated organizations) Staff; or Private Industry Emergency Management Programs; or Institutional Emergency Management Programs.
  2. "Corportate" membership shall be extended to any company, corporation or business which extends its support for EMAT and the concept of public safety. Each "Corporate" membership shall have one vote.
  3. "Student" membership shall be extended to any student desiring membership in EMAT. Before membership is granted, the students must show an interest in the Emergency Management professioin.

Purpose
The Emergency Management Association of Texas was established in 1989 and Incorporated in 1992.  The purposes of the organization, as stated in the By-laws are:

"EMAT shall enhance public safety through training, and providing support to certification and training programs. This will be accomplished by fostering research, information exchange and educational programs in order to advance the professionalism of persons engaged in emergency management and disaster preparedness."

EMAT will establish relationships between public and private agencies, and strengthen intergovernmental, inter-agency and multi-disciplinary liasons as they relate to integrated, comprehensive emergency management.
